Webinar 5: Sensing, Digitisation and Water 4.0

(Webinar Series on Industrial Water and Wastewater Management Challenges and Solutions)

The webinar series on "Industrial Water and Wastewater Management Challenges and Solutions" was jointly organized by the Joint Research and Demonstration Center for Water Technology (JRDC), Sri Lanka, Faculty of Engineering (NSF-NSFC project), University of Peradeniya, and the Water: Effective Technologies and Tools (WETT) Research Centre RMIT University, Australia through the support of the International Relations Office, University of Peradeniya. This webinar series targeted the local industries and aimed to identify prevailing water management issues and discuss sustainable solutions.

The fifth webinar, “Sensing, Digitisation and Water 4.0” was held on 01st July 2021 at 10 AM Sri Lanka (GMT+5:30). Three eminent resource persons, Prof. Arnan Mitchell, Director, Micro Nano Research Facility; Director, Integrated & Photonics Application Centre; Distinguished Professor, School of Engineering, RMIT University, Australia, Dr. Vijitha Herath, Senior Lecturer, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Mr. Ranga Fernando, FIEAust CPEng NER APEC Engineer IntPE(Aus), Adjunct Principal Research Fellow, School of Engineering, RMIT University, Australia; Distribution Transformation Manager, Yarra Valley Water, Australia shared their expertise at the session. Prof. Mitchell delivered the first talk on “Lab-on-a-chip technologies for water quality monitoring: low-cost, automated sensors for ubiquitous control of water resources”. The second talk on “Sensing Paradigms for Water Quality in the Water 4.0” was delivered by Dr. Herath. Mr. Fernando delivered the third talk on “IoT Sensors & Platforms in the Water Industry”. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Janaka Ekanayake Professor, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
