2021 International Training Workshop on BeiDou Technologies and Its Applications in the Belt and Road Countries and Regions (online)

The International Training Workshop on BDS (BeiDou Navigation Satellite System which is the Chinese satellite navigation system) Technologies and Applications was held in Beijing from 7th to 17th of September. The workshop was conducted both onsite and online with about 125 foreign participants from 28 countries and regions. The opening ceremony was held on 7th September 2021. In addition to many Chinese dignitaries Mr. Palitha Kohona, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China also graced the occasion, The workshop was featuring with systematic lectures on BDS-based navigation and positioning technology applications, research on leading high-tech BeiDou industries and promoting BDS services worldwide. Some of the specific topics covered during the workshop include Space-Time reference of BDS, BDS-Medium Earth Orbiting Search and Rescue program, High-precision location and timing services, and applications in Precision Agriculture.
A group of academic staff from the University of Peradeniya was also participated in the workshop virtually and obtained the completion certificates issued by the Academic Exchange Center of China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO-AEC).
University of Peradeniya has been selected as a key partner for BDS application development. The Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture are the main contributors and Department of Computer Engineering is coordinating the programme.
