Ceremonial Signing of the MoU on the Double Degree Programme between the University of Peradeniya and the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Niigata University, Japan

A ceremony to sign a new MoU on double degree programme between the University of Peradeniya and the Graduate School of Science and Technology of Niigata University, Japan was held on the 10th January, 2023 at the Vice-Chancellor’s office, University of Peradeniya.

The double degree programme aims at fostering the exchange of students between the two universities on mutually agreed fields of studies in science. It will certainly enable the exchange of students to access more valuable educational opportunities, field and research training jointly supervised up to a maximum duration of one year.

The coordinator of this programme from the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Sanjeewa Malaviaarachchi welcomed the participants and introduced the objectives of the MoU. The coordinator from Niigata University Prof. Satish Kumar briefed on the background and the content of the MoU. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. M.D. Lamawansa highlighted the significance of the new MoU and the history of the existing university-level MOUs with Niigata University which have immensely benefitted the two universities since 2010. The Vice-Chancellor and the Acting Registrar, Ms. Jayantha Dharmasiri were the signatories for the MoU from the University of Peradeniya while Prof. Ogura Kazuo, Dean of the Graduate School of Science was the signatory from the Niigata University. Prof. Neil Alles, the Director, International Relations Office (InRO) delivered the vote of thanks and concluded the event. The Dean (actg.) of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Buddhika Dassanayake, the Head of the Department of Geology, Dr. Udeni Amarasinghe, the present and immediate past representatives to the InRO from the Faculty of Science, Dr. Dimanthi Uduwela and Prof. Amalaka Pinidiyaarachchi, respectively, were also present at the ceremony.
