Visit of the delegates from California State University

A group of 17 undergraduate students, accompanied by four mathematics teachers, Prof. Ajith Weerasinghe from the LCOE (Mechanical Engineering), and Prof. Rajee Amarasinghe from the Department of Mathematics at California State University, visited the University of Peradeniya on the 7th of August 2024. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. W.M.T. Madhijith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. Prof. C.N.R.A. Alles, Director of the International Relations Office, Prof. B.D. Rohitha Prasantha from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, and staff members of the International Relations Office participated in the meeting held at the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
Following a brief introduction to the University of Peradeniya by the Vice-Chancellor, potential academic collaborations were discussed. These included research partnerships in Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics, as well as programs related to Mathematics Education between the two universities. The meeting was succeeded by a program featuring an Exchange of Information, an Interactive Session, a quiz competition, and a Research Discussion at the Department of Mathematics – Faculty of Science. Prof. Ajith Weerasinghe visited the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Engineering Mathematics of the Faculty of Engineering. During the visit, possible research collaborations were discussed including Solar system development research. The program concluded with a short tour of the university premises.
