As part of International Week 2025, the 3rd Puducherry World History Congress was successfully held from 22nd to 24th August 2025 at the University of Peradeniya, jointly organized with the International Relations Office (InRO). The earlier two sessions of this prestigious international congress were hosted in Pondicherry and Hyderabad, while the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, had the honour of organizing its third session at Peradeniya.

The primary objective of the congress was to strengthen scholarly connections between Sri Lanka and India and to facilitate the exchange of new and innovative historical research. It also aimed to foster cordial relations between the two countries through academic dialogue and collaboration.

The event was made possible with the blessings and guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and the dedicated support of the members of the Department of History. Their encouragement and commitment played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this landmark event.

The congress welcomed nearly 100 research papers from both local and international scholars, providing a rich platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and the promotion of South Asian research culture. More than 50 distinguished foreign scholars, representing various states of India and beyond, participated in the sessions.

This international congress marked one of the most significant academic gatherings hosted by the University of Peradeniya in recent years. The collaboration of many staff members across the Faculty of Arts contributed greatly to its success. The event not only enhanced the visibility of the University on the international academic stage but also became a landmark occasion in the history of Peradeniya, symbolizing its enduring commitment to fostering global scholarly engagement.
