Online Meeting Between the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the University of Peradeniya (UOP)

An online meeting between the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the University of Peradeniya (UOP) was held on 9th December 2025 from 3.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. The meeting was organized to strengthen academic cooperation between the two institutions and activate the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) through concrete academic and research collaborations.
Representing IIT Delhi, Prof. Dharmaraja Selvamuthu, Professor, Department of Mathematics and School of Artificial Intelligence; Prof. Mani Mehra, Professor, Department of Mathematics; and Dr. Divya Khatter, Coordinator, International Programmes, participated in this meeting.
From the University of Peradeniya, the meeting was attended by Prof. B.G.L.T. Samaranayake, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Roshan Ragel, Professor, Department of Computer Engineering; Dr. Panduka Neluwala, Senior Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering and Faculty Representative to the International Relations Office; Dr. Sampath Deegalla, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Engineering; Dr. Achala Pallegedara, Senior Lecturer, Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering; Dr. Chathura Withanage, Senior Lecturer, Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering; and Ms. Thushanika Pakkiyarasa, Project Manager, International Relations Office.
During the meeting, both institutions discussed potential areas for collaboration, including Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering. The participants highlighted existing professional links between faculty members and explored opportunities for joint research, faculty exchanges, workshops, and conference partnerships. A detailed discussion was also held on establishing structured mechanisms such as formal faculty matching, short-term workshops and Faculty Development Programmes, and coordinated efforts to access bilateral research funding through agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Research Council (NRC) of Sri Lanka, and India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST).
Several action points were agreed upon, including initiating a collaborative workshop for the Mathematics Department at UOP, beginning the formal faculty-matching process across identified disciplines, planning an online joint workshop following faculty introductions, and exploring the possibility of IIT Delhi co-hosting a future International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIS).
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing strong interest and commitment to further strengthening academic and research partnerships between IIT Delhi and the University of Peradeniya.
