On 19th August 2025, from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m., a delegation from Staff Manzoku Foreign Employment Agency, Japan, visited the International Relations Office (InRO) at the University of Peradeniya for a discussion with the Director and staff. The delegation included Mr. Akiyoshi Yamamoto, President of Super Court Co., Ltd. (Japan) and Vice Chairman of Super Hotel Co., Ltd. (Japan); Mr. Tomokazu Matsuura, President, Staff Manzoku Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan); Ms. Sapna Tissera, Sri Lanka Coordinator, Staff Manzoku Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan); and Ms. Amaarah Firdowzi, Operations Manager, Staff Manzoku Foreign Employment Agency (Sri Lanka). Representing the University of Peradeniya were Prof. S.P.K. Malaviarchchi, Director, International Relations Office, together with the InRO staff.

The session began with a presentation by the Chairperson of the delegation, who introduced Staff Manzoku Corporation and provided a detailed overview of the company’s profile and services. The presentation outlined their proposal to strengthen cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan through employment and study-abroad initiatives. As part of their plan, the agency expressed interest in collaborating with Sri Lankan universities to support recruitment, training, and placement of Sri Lankan personnel in Japan, while also establishing a Japanese Language Centre to provide language education for prospective candidates.

During the discussion, particular attention was given to potential collaboration with the Department of Nursing, University of Peradeniya, where opportunities for nursing graduates to work in Japan and pursue study-abroad options were highlighted. The delegation underlined that such initiatives aim to enhance employment prospects for Sri Lankan students while contributing to Japan’s skilled workforce needs.

In response, Prof. Malaviarchchi welcomed the proposal, noting that it would create valuable opportunities for students of the University. He further emphasized that once Staff Manzoku establishes a licensed centre in Sri Lanka, the University could formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), subject to Ministry approval. This would facilitate effective collaboration and open the door to further initiatives in the future.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding that the establishment of Staff Manzoku’s presence in Sri Lanka would be the first step towards a long-term partnership, and both parties expressed optimism about the potential for future collaboration.
