A Delegation from Linyi University, China Visits the University of Peradeniya

A delegation from Linyi University, China, visited the University of Peradeniya on 5th December 2025 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office to explore avenues for academic collaboration and future partnership opportunities. The delegation was led by Mr. Zhuang Bo, Vice President of Linyi University, together with senior representatives including Prof. Zhao Jinxia (Dean, School of Education), Mr. Sun Tao (Party Secretary, Yishui Campus), Prof. Wei Xiuchun (Dean, School of History and Culture), and Ms. Wang Xiaoyan (Section Chief, School of International Exchange and Cooperation & Interpreter). Dr. K. Wimalarathne, Economic Advisor to the Zhucheng Municipal Government and International Strategic Development Consultant to Linyi University, also participated.
The University of Peradeniya was represented by Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Vice Chancellor, Prof. H.D.W.T. Damayanthi Dassanayake, Acting Director of the International Relations Office, and staff of the International Relations Office. During the discussions, both parties shared detailed overviews of their respective institutions, including academic programmes, research strengths, facilities, staff profiles, and global rankings. The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the University of Peradeniya’s long-standing collaborations with several leading Chinese universities through existing Memoranda of Understanding.
The Linyi University delegation expressed interest in building on these connections and exploring opportunities in student and staff exchanges, joint research, and capacity-building initiatives.
As a next step, both institutions agreed to arrange follow-up discussions with the relevant faculties and departments of the University of Peradeniya, based on the specific areas of interest identified by the Linyi University team. The visit marked a positive step toward establishing a formal partnership and strengthening academic ties between the two universities.
