University of Peradeniya Meets with Acumen to Discuss JETRO South Asian Universities Directory Initiative

The International Relations Office (InRO) of the University of Peradeniya held a meeting with Ms. Mitthali Pradhan, Partner Success Manager of Acumen – Bringing Innovation to the Education Market, on 21st July 2026 at 10.30 a.m. at the International Relations Office.

The meeting was attended by Prof. S.P.K. Malaviarachchi, Director of the International Relations Office, together with the staff of the International Relations Office.

The discussion focused on the South Asian Universities Directory Project, an initiative of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) implemented in collaboration with Acumen. The project aims to strengthen academic and industry linkages between South Asian universities and Japanese higher education institutions, research organizations, and industry partners.

During the meeting, Ms. Pradhan presented an overview of the initiative, highlighting its objective of developing a comprehensive digital directory of leading South Asian universities. The directory is expected to enhance the international visibility of participating institutions while creating opportunities for academic collaboration, student and staff mobility, joint research, internships, and career opportunities with Japanese organizations.

The Director of InRO shared an overview of the University’s academic profile, research strengths, international collaborations, and postgraduate programmes. Discussions also explored the University’s potential participation in the directory and future collaboration through career engagement initiatives and partnerships with Japanese institutions.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their interest in fostering stronger academic and institutional ties, paving the way for future collaboration between the University of Peradeniya and Japanese higher education and industry partners.
