The Meeting with Prof. Melnik Viktor Alexandrovich, Vice-Rector for Academic Work, Gomel State Medical University, Belarus

Prof. Melnik Viktor Alexandrovich, Vice-Rector for academic work, Gomel State Medical University, Belarus visited the University of Peradeniya on the 17th of February 2023. Prof. Melnik Viktor Alexandrovich was accompanied by Dr. Lasantha Amarakoon, Chairman of the REC Campus. Prof. Melnik Viktor Alexandrovich was welcomed by Prof. MD. Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya. Prof. CNRA. Alles, Director of the International Relations Office, and Prof. Vasanthi Pinto, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine participated in the meeting.
After giving a brief introduction to the Gomel State Medical University, Belarus by Prof. Melnik Viktor Alexandrovich, possible academic collaborations including student and staff exchanges between the two universities and the possibility of clinical training at the Gomel State Medical University were discussed during the meeting. Possible disciplines for academic collaborations including Psychiatric and clinical training were highlighted in the short discussion. Dean, Faculty of Medicine expressed her interest in starting elective courses at the University of Peradeniya which the students from Gomel State Medical University could visit and study during the summer vacation periods. An MoU between the two universities was signed during the meeting to strengthen future academic collaborations. A short visit to the Faculty of Medicine was conducted followed by the meeting.
